Causes of Body Acne
Acne is an extremely common skin condition which usually occurs during adolescence. It is characterized by the appearance of small red bumps or lesions on the areas of the skin that have the most amount of sebaceous follicles. These areas include the face, back and chest. Acne develops when the oil glands of the body, known as the sebaceous glands begin to produce an increased amount of oil. The oil is secreted on to the surface of the skin through the skin pores or hair follicles. When there is a higher flow of oil, the pores become clogged as dead skin cells and bacteria accumulate in the follicles along with the oil. This forms a plug which blocks the opening of the pore. The action of the bacteria leads to the development of an infection, causing the plug to become filled with pus. This is known as a pimple, and the spread of the pimples on the skin leads to acne. Acne has a family history and it could run in families. Puberty, menstruation and pregnancy cause fluctuations of hormonal levels in the body, which stimulate the oil glands to produce a higher content of oil. Stress also leads to hormonal changes which in turn have an effect on the sebaceous glands. Excessive washing of the skin can remove the natural oiliness that is necessary to keep the skin hydrated. This could also cause the oil glands to produce more oil to compensate for the sudden loss of oil. Home Remedies to Get Rid of Acne Home remedies are easy to use and quite effective in treating acne. An excellent face pack is made by boiling raspberry, blackberry or strawberry leaves in a couple of liters of water. This can be applied to the skin to reduce itching and irritation.
